SACCO and microfinance software for Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda
In East Africa a SACCO lends its members' own savings, most repayments arrive by mobile money rather than at a counter, and the board wants to know the portfolio at risk before the regulator does. Byaj Batta keeps member savings, shares and loans on one record, puts collections in the loan officer's hand, and posts every shilling or franc to a double-entry ledger.
Who we work with in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda
SACCOs
Deposit-taking and non-deposit-taking SACCOs in Kenya, Tier 4 SACCOs in Uganda, SACCOS in Tanzania and Umurenge SACCOs in Rwanda: members, savings, share capital and loans in one system.
Microfinance institutions
Licensed MFIs and microfinance service providers lending to groups and micro-enterprises through loan officers in the field.
Credit-only lenders
Non-deposit-taking lenders and money lenders that need clean schedules, receipts and an overdue list, not a core banking system.
How it fits the way you lend
Savings and loans on one member record
A member's savings, fixed deposits, share capital and loans sit together, so a loan officer or the credit committee sees the whole relationship before approving.
Guarantors on the application
Guarantors are recorded on the loan application with their details and the basis of their guarantee, and the approval chain shows who signed off.
Mobile-money repayments
Members repay by M-Pesa, Airtel Money or MTN MoMo far more often than in cash. Today a repayment is recorded against the loan with its transaction code; connecting your paybill or till so payments post automatically is part of onboarding with your provider.
Loan officers and groups in the field
Collection sheets by group or route, an Android app for officers that keeps working on a weak signal, and cash-in-hand tracked per officer until it is banked.
Portfolio at risk, by branch and officer
PAR buckets and days-past-due ageing from live balances, so the monthly board pack is a report you run rather than a spreadsheet you rebuild.
Connected during onboarding
None of these is live out of the box outside India. We work with you to connect your local payment, KYC and credit bureau providers, and scope each one before you sign.
- →Mobile-money collections through your paybill or till (M-Pesa, Airtel Money or MTN MoMo — whichever you use)
- →Bank or mobile-money disbursements, if you pay out electronically
- →Identity checks against your national ID provider, through the verification service you choose
- →Your licensed credit reference bureau, for pulls and, where required, submissions
- →SMS reminders and receipts through a local SMS gateway
- →The returns you file with SASRA, UMRA, the Bank of Tanzania or the National Bank of Rwanda, built from data already in the system
Your currency, your pricing
Kenyan, Ugandan and Tanzanian shillings (KES, UGX, TZS) are already in the currency list; the Rwandan franc (RWF) is added when your organisation is set up.
Pricing is per active loan, quoted in KES, UGX, TZS or RWF. Onboarding, migration and provider connections are scoped and quoted before you commit.
Hosted in the cloud and run by us; data hosted in-region on request.
Frequently asked
Can our members repay by M-Pesa?
Yes — and today each mobile-money repayment is recorded against the loan with its M-Pesa (or Airtel Money / MoMo) transaction code. An automatic connection to your paybill or till, so repayments post without anyone keying them, is set up during onboarding with your provider. It is not live out of the box.
Does it keep member savings and share capital as well as loans?
Yes. Savings accounts, fixed and recurring deposits and share capital are held per member alongside their loans, and all of them post to the same general ledger.
Can a loan require guarantors?
Yes. Guarantors are captured on the application with their details and the basis of the guarantee, and the loan goes through your approval chain with each decision recorded.
Can it produce our SASRA (or UMRA, BoT, BNR) returns?
There is no pre-built East African regulator return today. The figures those returns use — loan portfolio, PAR, deposits, share capital and the ledger — are all held in the system, and we scope the exact formats with you during onboarding.
Will figures show in shillings?
Yes. Your organisation runs in its own currency — KES, UGX and TZS are already supported and RWF is added at setup — and the quote is in your currency too.
